Overview of how wedding dress shopping and selling is typically done:
Wedding Dress Fitting Appointments:
- You’ll most likely need an appointment.
Most salons in the Durban area require you to make an appointment, there are not many salons that allow brides to just walk in and browse. Appointment costs can range from R150 – R350 for an hour or an hour and a half fitting appointment. Call your selected boutiques and inquire about the fitting cost and time before setting up an appointment.
- Some boutiques won’t let you browse or try on items yourself.
- Every salon is different, some may allow you to try and select your own dresses, but at A`mour Bridal Boutique our stylists will bring out the best dresses for you to try on, similar to the TV programme “Say yes to the dress”.
- There are so many choices, so it can also be overwhelming, not knowing where to start with a dress fitting and deciding on your own could be a bit daunting. That’s where the stylists come in!
- Knowing your budget at this stage is vitally important, as stylists need to know the monetary value they are working with. Letting a bride try on a dress that is out of her budget can be demoralising for the bride, as she falls in love with a dress but can’t afford it.
- A`mour Bridal Boutique stylists will help you find gowns to suit your body shape and budget.
- Bridal fashion vocabulary.
Stylists use bridal language. Know some of the terminology such as A-line, bodice, train and hem, so that when you are at the appointment you understand what they are talking about and if you don’t understand, then ask.

- Boutiques normally carry a selection of styles of their featured brands and most salons stock dress sizes UK8 – UK10.
At A`mour Bridal Boutique we try and cater to every bride’s needs. We have a wide range of sizes and styles. Sizes range from a UK6 to UK22. Although we have more of a selection in the smaller size range, we do have a good selection for curvier brides. Our Maggie Sottero – Rebecca Ingram collection are especially suitable for curvy brides. These dresses are made with plenty of support and really do accentuate the figure.
- It could take more than 6 months to receive your dress.
Due to COVID-19, we would recommend that you start dress shopping 7 to 12 months prior to your wedding date, this will give enough time to order the dress and do alterations before your big day. If your dress arrives early, we also have a storage facility, which you can make use of to keep your dress safe until your wedding date.
